Each time a major awards ceremony draws close, there’s always a demand for the addition of new categories to recognize unsung work and satisfy the passions of fans who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Existing Game Classification System
The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely that year
- Another imaginative release missed out that year
- Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
- Only a few brain-teasers scraped into niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often small games, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games in the world and have been for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.
The Solution and Justification
Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
